Safecast Radiation Measurement Seminar

On Saturday August 6th, Safecast will be hosting a seminar on Radiation Measurement in Japan.

We’re honored to have Joi Ito, Director of MIT Media Lab and Advisor to Safecast, to open the seminar and have Loftwork hosting the seminar at their wonderful facilities in Shibuya.

The Safecast team will present an overview of Safecast and what has been done till now:

  • what and who is Safecast
  • basics of radiation
  • how to measure radiation
  • devices used – mobile and fixed sensors
  • Radiation maps for Japan
  • what have we found
  • crowd sourcing radiation measurements
  • collaboration with Keio University
  • what we will be doing next
  • Q+A

After the seminar we will offer a hands-on workshop for interested participants to measure radiation themselves. We will have a wide variety of geiger counters and other measurement equipment available for use. It will be possible to bring your own samples to be measured (please let us know if you will do in advance).
